Terms & Conditions while staying at the Langley Almshouses

Almshouses are unfurnished dwellings, usually specially designed with the needs of older people in mind. The aim is to provide convenient and comfortable accommodation in a setting that allows residents to come and go as they please. The Almshouses have a resident Warden, and an emergency call system in every unit. In an emergency such as a sudden illness or after a fall, a Resident can quickly get help.

To make your time at our houses a comfortable and pleasurable as possible we do ask the following of our residents (for more details please refer to the application form below):

  • No pets are allowed in the Almshouses.

  • No Smoking is permitted in the accommodation, only outside away from other residences.

  • Every resident is expected to be able to look after him/herself as properties do not constitute a Convalescent Home or any form of Residential Care. Residents unable to care for themselves are required to make alternative arrangements for accommodation.

  • Residents may not let their accommodation, nor allow any person to share the accommodation.

  • The provision of accommodation to any person does not confer any Right or Security of Tenure.

  • Allocation of a 1st Floor property does not confer any right to change to a single storey or ground floor accommodation at a later date. An application may be made to the trustees for consideration. Successful applicants will be accommodated in an individual flat, bungalow or house within our Almshouses complex.  Our housing stock comprises 17th Century houses and 20th Century flats and bungalows.

  • The Trustees are required to ensure that the applicants meet minimum criteria before they allocate accommodation and as a result, it is incumbent on each applicant to produce such testimonials and evidence of qualification such as financial documentation, information on health status and social matters.

  • The Trustees may terminate the allocation of any resident who, in their opinion, disregards the Rules and Regulations or behave vexatiously or offensively.

  • Trustees must be informed about changes of circumstances that take place during your residency including financial, physical or mental.

All applicants called to interview will be asked to provide documentary evidence of their status such as council tax, utility bills, pay slips, tax records, bank statements, and anything else we require. All applications will be treated in the strictest confidence and we ask for this evidence only to ensure that we give due consideration to those who are most in need of an Almshouse.

Anyone contemplating applying for an Almshouse needs to realise that they will be joining a community and should consider how they can contribute positively to that community.  Many of our residents have worked to establish effective social networks and others have contributed to the communal gardens.  Others simply have a positive attitude to their neighbours and the environment. Willingness to be a positive member of this community is crucial to successful residency.
